The Warrior Gateway Project (www.warriorgateway.org) is a non-profit program designed to promote easier reintegration into home communities for military personnel. It establishes a single capability that serves as a trusted and reliable resource for the military community to quickly locate service organizations that satisfy their needs, identify academic programs they’re interested in and easily find employers seeking their valuable skills, while enabling improvements in the service provider sector through metrics and collaboration.
Warrior Gateway is intended to help eliminate information barriers and information overload. It provides one central location for offering needed resources to the military community, free of charge.
In an effort to continuously enhance its website and the valuable resources it provides, Warrior Gateway commissioned Avalon and its partner, MarkLogic, to host a “Code Bash” to develop new features for integration into the site. Held at Avalon’s Washington DC office, the “Bash” was a weekend-long event where a blended team of developers volunteered their time day and night to create new solutions to be rolled into the Warrior Gateway portal.
Some of the new features to come out of the event include a FaceBook log-in and authentication, an image upload capability for service providers, a search widget and email invitations. The development of enhanced features such as these helps users more readily locate service organizations that suit their needs and connect with other members of the military community to draw on the experiences of their fellow servicemen and women and their families.
