Avalon’s Information Architect Kurt Cagle will be speaking at the upcoming Balisage Conference. Balisage is an annual conference devoted to the theory and practice of descriptive markup and related technologies for structuring and managing information.
Mr. Cagle will present the session When XQuery and SparQL Collide. Far from being competing technologies, XQuery and SparQL are potential collaborators in data extraction and manipulation. Since an XML database can also function as a triple store, it’s possible to combine the languages so that each executes what it’s optimized for while avoiding process boundary serialization problems and also generate output like XHTML from queries across a variety of document types.
The presentation will take place on Thursday, August 4th, from 9:00AM – 9:45AM.
Mr. Cagle is an Information Architect specializing in XML databases (MarkLogic, eXist-db), archival, content management, and community systems. He serves on the W3C in the XForms and HTML working groups as an Invited Expert, and runs XMLToday.org, a news and technology site focusing on XML related issues, and will be launching a new site targeting the Drupal CMS shortly. He's written seventeen books on XML technology (with another on HTML and SVG on the way) and has written extensively on web and business standards, including XBRL, for several years.
